The “Class of 1993” continued the Marlboro tradition of developing players ready to move to higher levels beyond Minor Hockey. In all, five players were drafted in this year’s NHL Draft. Coached by Ken Strong, Ryan Strome was selected in the 1st Round, 5th overall by the New York Islanders. A perfect fit where he will join John Tavares, another Marlboro Grad who was 1st overall in 2009. Both are off-season training partners. Stuart Percy followed, being selected in the 1st round, 25th overall by the Toronto Maple Leafs. For Stuart “it was a surreal moment, I’ve grown up a Leaf fan all my life”. Both sets of parents were obviously thrilled and surely are very proud.

Day 2 brought more players to the podium. Adam Clendenning, a late 1992 birthdate who plays at Boston University, played his Minor Midget year for coach Steve Thomas (a former Marlboro & Toronto Maple Leaf). His late birthday made him eligible for the 2011 Draft. Next up were Brett Ritchie and Lucas Lessio, integral pieces to the 1993 Marlboro Team that won Provincial Championships and an OHL Cup.
