Marlboros Minor Midget, Major Bantam and Major PeeWee were victorious to win Gold over the Holiday Tournament Weekend.

Over the Holiday tournament week 6 teams represented the Club at various venues.

The Minor Midgets, Major Bantams and Minor Bantams all participated in the prestigious host Toronto Marlboros Holiday Classic. After advancing through the Conference Finals the Minor Midgets met Kitchener Rangers in the Grand Championship; a solid, but somewhat, cinderella team. Much to the Rangers’ credit they defeated the number one and two seeds, Toronto Titans and Jr. Canadiens to reach the Finals. In the finals against the Marlboros, the legs were just not there for Kitchener. The outcome of the game was a 3-0 victory in Marlboros favor with Ben Jones, a projected high OHL draft pick being selected MVP. Look out for the Rangers in the OHL Cup in March.

The Toronto Marlboros Major Bantam put together an awesome round robin run with four victories, outscoring their opponents 24 – 2 to clinch 1st seed. They went on to play the Toronto Red Wings in the round of 16 with a 4 – 2 win and followed with a 3 – 2 OT victory against the Kingston Jr. Frontenacs later in the day. This put them in the Semi-Finals Vs North Central Predators where the Marlboros came back after going down 2 goals in the first period with 5 unanswered goals. With that win, it put them in the finals against theirs arch rivals Mississauga Rebels where over the past several years they continue to battle for hardware. The Marlboros came out flying in the 1st Period with some great chances but could only skate off with a 1 – 0 lead on a goal by Akil Thomas. The 2nd Period was fast paced, with both teams exchanging some great scoring chances, big hits and a Marlboros goal that was called back after some serious deliberation from the Refs. The game was 1 – 0 going into the 3rd and again another goal called back on the Toronto Marlboros as the Referee indicated it was tipped in by a High Stick.

The game went on at a furious pace with the Rebels getting a power play in the last couple of minutes in the game. The Marlboros came with a big penalty kill and now going into the last minute of the game with the Rebels pulling their goalie. Toronto Marlboros Zack Young intercept a neutral ice pass and drives home the Victory with a 2-0 empty netter. Goaltender Elliott Tang was selected Tournament MVP.

For the second tournament in a row the Pee Wee Major Team had to run through the tournament with a depleted bench. Due to suspensions and vacations we ran with 7 forwards, 4 Defensemen, and 1 goalie.

In the round robin we only gave up 1 point to a hot Clarington goalie who stopped 50 + shots for 1 – 1 tie that went into overtime. The team finished as the second seed and set up a great quarter finals match against Ottawa Senators. The Sens came out hard in the first two periods and rolled a full bench against us. In the end the boys stood their ground and came out with a 3 – 0 win.

The semi finals matched us up against the Mississauga Reps and made it the 7th time we have faced them this year. It was a spirited contest with us coming up with a 4 – 1 win.

The Grand championship was the match up most people predicted. Marlies vs. Chicago Mission. With some unbelievable saves from Connor Mckenzie and two highlight reel goals from Lleyton Moore the boys went up 3-0 going into the 3rd. Mission came out strong in the last period but could only put together 1 goal late in the game on a 6 on 4. The team won their 3rd tournament in a row and their 40th straight game without a lost! Connor Mckenzie and Lleyton Moore were the tournament MVP’s.

Major Pee Wee - Bauer Challenge Cup Champions

In other action the Minor Pee Wee team at the Richard Bell Tournament reached the semi-finals before being eliminated by Don Mills and the Minor Bantam team reached the quarter- finals before bowing out to Mississauga Senators.
