2012 NHL Draft

Marlboros 1994 Team Shines at the 2012 NHL Draft

Coach Dan Brown knew he had a special group of players in the Bantam and Minor Midget years with the Marlboros a few years back, but to have a record number from one team drafted into the NHL as former Marlboros was extra special. After former captain Scott Laughton was taken in the first Round by the Philadelphia Flyers, his close friend and teammate in those years Matt Finn realized a boyhood dream when selected in the 2nd Round by the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Many observers believe that the Leafs stole this player, as Matt was ranked in the top 25 in the first round by many. The parade for the 1994 boys did not end there as five more Marlboro boys were selected before the day had ended. Add to that list Malcolm Subban (1st Rd. to Boston Bruins), a member of the All-Ontario 1993 Marlboro Bantam Team, and James DeHaas (6th Rd. to Detroit Red Wings) two years removed from the Marlboro Midgets; a total of nine players from the organization moved one step closer to their boyhood dreams.

This tremendous result reinforces the notion why the Marlboro Organization is so proud to develop outstanding hockey players and members of the community.
