2014 NHL Draft

Marlboro Grads show well at 2014 NHL Draft

Marlboro Grads show well at 2014 NHL Draft, Not One, Not Two, but Three Players Selected in the 1st Round.

On June 27th and 28th the NHL held its 2014 NHL Draft in Philadelphia. Graduates from the Marlboros Minor Midget team of years past are moving on to their next challenge, an NHL job.

Selected in the 1st Round with the 4th pick by the Calgary Flames was Sam Bennett.Sam is a skilled, two-way player with a tremendous work ethic and a capability to put big points on the board. Former Leaf player Doug Gilmour, and Sam’s current coach, can’t say enough good things about him.

With the 10th pick the Anaheim Ducks selected Nicholas Ritchie. Nicholas is a big, strong power forward who has represented Canada at international competitions. He loves to drive to the net.

At #28 Joshua Ho-Sang was selected by the New York Islanders. Joshua is a highly skilled goal-scorer, with “soft hands” who loves to “dangle the puck”. He will be going to the Islanders to join two other Marlboro 1st round picks, John Tavares and Ryan Strome. It appears Garth Snow has faith in Marlboro Grads, regardless of their Junior affiliates.

Moving into Saturday’s Second Round, former Minor Midget captain Roland McKeown was selected 50th Overall by the L.A. Kings, 2014 Stanley Cup Champions what an honor! He was followed in the 6th Round by Jaden Lindo who was selected by the Pittsburgh Penguins.

All five players were coached in the minor midget year by Ken Strong. Congratulations on your accomplishments and good luck moving forward with your teams.

The organization is very proud of you!
