OHL Drafts

The first ever OHL draft was held in June of 1963 at Toronto’s Royal York Hotel in conjunction with the Ontario Hockey Associations “Annual General Meeting”.

At that time and up until 1968 all the Junior “A” teams in Ontario were sponsored by one of the original six NHL teams who stocked the various teams with their young signed prospects.

The draft was moved each year to several Toronto locations until 1981 when the draft was held for 10 consecutive years at the North York Centennial arena.

Beginning with the 1991 draft in Kitchener the event was moved around to various member cities until 2012 when for the first time ever the draft was done “on line” with the various clubs making selections from their “war rooms”.

Marlboro minor players have had a rich history in this entry to Major Jr “A” hockey and in the past few years have been very prominent in the early round selections.
