The Oldest Hockey Clubs in Toronto

Aug 3, 2016 | Headlines

Whenever the question arises as to “who is the longest continuous run hockey club in Toronto” the answer invariably comes around to our Toronto Maple Leafs.

In fact there are three organizations that were founded before the blue and white came into existence!

The Upper Canada College Blues first hit the ice competitively in 1888.

Next to follow were the legendary University of Toronto “Varsity Blues” in 1891.

Our own Toronto Marlboros followed next – icing its first ever minor team in 1899.

The Toronto Maple Leafs did not take root until 1927.

The fifth organization was southern Etobicoke’s Faustina Hockey Club in 1935.

Try that question next time there is a trivia contest at your favorite establishment!
