Marlboro graduate, Davide Nicoletti was selected to be a member of the Italian National Team playing in the 2014 IIHF World Hockey Championships in Minsk, Belarus.
Many years ago one of our Minor Marlboros endured a horrific accident which all speculation led to the belief the young boy would never play hockey again. With multiple pins in both legs his recuperation time in Sick Children’s Hospital lasted well beyond the anticipated time. Many of his teammates and peers in that age division went on to play professional hockey; some signing lucrative NHL contracts. Davide determined, to reach his dreams and goals, persevered in Tier 2 junior, went on to play in the NAHL and was finally rewarded with full hockey scholarship to NCAA Division 1, University of Alabama-Huntsville. After graduation, Davide decided that it was not the end of the road for his hockey, but that he had more to give. The past three years he has played professionally in Europe, finishing off this past year playing in the Austrian Tier 1 Professional League for Bolzano. Bolzano capped the season by winning the league championship over top-ranked Red Bull.
The pursuit to one of his goals did not stop there however. A week ago Davide Nicoletti was selected to be a member of the Italian National Team playing in the 2014 IIHF World Hockey Championships in Minsk, Belarus. Play begins on May 9th. Davide is so much looking forward to competing against Canada who will have a team filled with some of the top Canadian NHL players.
