Marlboros Minor Bantams Capture Gold at the Red Wing Early Bird Tournament.
The team entered the tournament having not played a game together all summer long and had a slow start resulting in a 2 – 2 tie with last years provincial host team YSE.
After a quick turn around and a game under the players belt the team responded well beating Burlington 5-0, Elgin Middlesex 9-0, and Windsor 10-1. Both Connor Mckenzie and Chris Adolfe had a shutout each in the round robin.
Newly aquired players Will Cuylle and Reid Valade combined for 9 goals together over a two game stint. Will Cuylle had a 5 goal performance over Elgin Middlesex and had a hat trick 45 seconds into a single shift. Reid Valade produced a 4 goal game against the Windsor Spitfires the following game.
In the playoff round the team did what they had to do and beat Hamilton 4-1 in the quarters, took down the Mississauga Rebels 4-0 in the semi finals, and won the Championship Game 4 -1 against the Mississauga Reps. In the finals Connor Mckenzie made three big stops to shut the door on a pressing Reps team late in the game and defencemen Llyton Moore was the MVP.
